It was 10 years ago when Jason and Leigh Ann Siener eagerly awaited the birth of their twin boys. Unfortunately, Christmas 2006 turned into a stressful holiday indeed when Leigh Ann went into premature labor December 23 and the boys arrived three months early.
The Sieners’ story has a happy ending, thanks in no small part to the dedicated team in the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Saint Francis Medical Center. Those long three months prior to the boys’ discharge showed Jason and Leigh Ann just how much stress a premature birth can place on a family’s financial resources as well.
That experience was the impetus for the Sieners to create the Parents With Hope fund, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. The fund provides financial assistance to families of premature or critically ill newborns in the Level III NICU for expenses such as lodging, food and travel expenses.
More than 520 families have benefited during the last decade, with more than $126,500 disbursed to help offset costs that include more than 2,700 nights in hotel rooms for families from throughout our five-state service region.
We thank Jason and Leigh Ann for their selfless support of Saint Francis Healthcare System Foundation and the families impacted by their generous gifts. Jason also has served as a board member for Saint Francis Health System and the couple has been very active in our Foundation.
