Thanks in part to a 32 percent increase in the number of participating businesses, total contributions for the 2016 Pink Up campaign eclipsed the $200,000 mark for the first time. Saint Francis Healthcare System Foundation’s signature fundraising campaign saw a 15 percent boost in gifts to $205,866.
Funds raised through Pink Up activities benefit the Dig for Life campaign, which helps Saint Francis Healthcare System provide more than 400 free mammograms every year to women who otherwise cannot afford them. The Pink Up campaign expanded this year to include awareness and screenings for colon, lung and prostate cancer, as well as the core target of breast cancer screenings. More than 3,400 women have received mammograms and other diagnostic tests since 2005.
Pink Up has become one of the more popular charitable events throughout Saint Francis Healthcare System’s service area, with 324 businesses participating this year compared to 245 in 2015. Funds raised through their efforts increased more than 20 percent this year to $132,357. Businesses are coming up with creative ways to participate, such as the inaugural Liberty Utilities golf tournament that raised more than $8,000.
In addition, 32 schools, groups and teams participated in the October campaign, and revenue from online merchandise sales increased more than 42 percent to $72,044.
